Virginia's obituary
Virginia V. Zawacki, age 81, passed away after a brief illness on April 18, 2026 at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, Maryland with family and friends at her side.
Virginia, known simply as Virg or Busia, was born September 12, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Victoria and Felix Krzyzanski. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Cissie.
She is survived by three other sisters (Sylvia, Jane and Laura), two daughters (Tina Gatlin of Clarksburg, Maryland and Vicki Zawacki of Anchorage, Alaska), and 6 grandchildren (Chris, John, Matt, Ben, Jay and Miles).
Virg was a 49-year resident of Anchorage, Alaska before retiring and moving to Frederick, MD in 2015 to be close to her daughter Tina and grandchildren.
Virg touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, warmth, and generous spirit will be forever remembered. She leaves behind a legacy of love and an unwavering spirit of perseverance. She will be greatly missed.
A simple memorial service will be held on May 8, 2026 at 10AM in the historic chapel at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Frederick, MD. We invite all who knew and loved Virg to join us in prayers to honor her memory.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Virg's legacy of dedication and service to others by giving back to your community in some way with her in mind. This, we believe, would be the best tribute to her extraordinary life.
