Virginia's obituary
Virginia (Ginny) Mae Skipper Carlson was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on November 22nd, 2024 in St. Helena, California following a brief but intensive stay in the ICU at Adventist Health Hospital.
Ginny was born on October 28th, 1951 to mother Vivian Daniel Skipper, father James Skipper and brother John Skipper in Morenci, Arizona. Raised in California she met one of her best friends Christine Sailer Waelty attending Monte Vista Christian High School where she graduated in 1969. One of Ginny’s great loves was music and sharing her gifts with others in praise of the Lord. Her piano skills earned her an opportunity to attend Julliard School of Music, but she felt her true calling attending Bethany Bible College in Scotts Valley, California where she would go on to meet many lifelong friends and her husband Don Carlson.
Ginny & Don were married in 1971 upon his college graduation that year. After marriage the two worked as youth ministers at Foothill Christian Center in Palo Alto, for 3 years where she also served as the church pianist. During this time Ginny began working for a few credit unions, making her way up to a field installer position where she travelled across the country installing hardware and setting up software for these credit unions in various states. In 1975 she welcomed the birth of her son Matthew Carlson.
As the years passed she briefly lived in Oregon and Texas before returning to California to make Sonora County her home. There she began working at the county hospital in administration where she stayed for approximately 20 years, rising to a Director position prior to her retirement. It seems fitting that she spent so much of her career in healthcare, as Ginny spent most of her retirement years helping others who were troubled or ailing and assisting several family and friends in their final days to have a graceful passing. She was invaluable to them during those difficult times, dedicating herself to showing them love and care. This included her mother Vivian, Aunt Wilma, brother John and his wife Betty, and her good friends Alva and Russell Peters. Russell Peters founded Chapel in the Pines in Twain Harte, California, where Ginny found much solace and fellowship over the years.
Ginny is survived by her husband Don, son Matthew, daughter-in-law Sarah, as well as many extended family members who miss her dearly. She left an indelible mark upon all those who were blessed to know her. We invite friends and family to join a service celebrating her life on December 14th at 1:00pm at the Chapel in the Pines in Twain Harte, California.
