Background

1. Why is this cause meaningful?
Fundamental Health Literacy is meaningful because it addresses the urgent need to improve health awareness, especially in relation to cognitive decline, stroke recovery, and trauma. The cause became even more personal after the founder, Joanne Arroyo, lost her mother, Dr. Virginia Reynolds, to a stroke. Dr. Reynolds was a respected educator who dedicated her life to helping others and believed in the power of knowledge. Her passing highlighted the critical importance of educating people about stroke prevention and recovery.

This cause now serves not only to honor Dr. Reynolds’ legacy but to ensure that others are equipped with the resources to manage and reduce their health risks. Raising awareness about how strokes and other risk factors contribute to dementia is a deeply personal mission that aims to make a lasting difference.

2. How was Dr. Virginia Reynolds involved with this cause?
Dr. Virginia Reynolds, mother of the founder, was a lifelong advocate of education and empowerment. She believed that knowledge could change lives, and she was deeply passionate about health and well-being. Dr. Reynolds’ stroke and subsequent passing were a catalyst for Fundamental Health Literacy. Her life's work in education, combined with her personal health journey, continues to inspire the mission of this organization, which is dedicated to spreading health literacy to underserved populations.

3. How will the donations help?
Donations will honor Dr. Reynolds’ memory by providing free or low-cost educational sessions about stroke prevention, dementia risk reduction, and trauma recovery. These funds will:

Expand programming that focuses on helping individuals understand how to prevent strokes and recover from them.
Offer mental health support for trauma and PTSD, reducing the risk of future cognitive decline.
Develop educational materials and host workshops to reach more people, especially those without access to these resources.
Support those who cannot afford traditional healthcare services with vital knowledge that can prevent future health issues.
Every donation will help us carry forward Dr. Reynolds' legacy of empowerment through education, ensuring that others do not have to face the same struggles without proper guidance.

4. Anything else you'd like people to know?
This cause is a tribute to Dr. Virginia Reynolds and her belief in the transformative power of education. Though the organization is still growing, it aims to create lasting change by helping people better understand their health. Through addressing both physical and mental health risks, we hope to give individuals the tools they need to prevent conditions like stroke and dementia.

We welcome any form of support—whether it's a donation, spreading the word, or volunteering—to help us reach those in need. By working together, we can honor Dr. Reynolds’ memory and make a meaningful impact on the lives of many.
