Virginia's obituary
On January 16th, Virginia “Gayle” McIver, 64, passed away peacefully at her home in Spring Texas. Gayle was born in Toronto, Canada on May 8, 1958. She was predeceased by her father, Thomas P. McIver, Q.C., her sister Barbara “Barbie” McIver and her beloved daughter, Emily Rose Hiscock. Gayle is survived by her daughter Elizabeth “Claire” Hiscock (Michael Auty); her mother Melba “Sherm” McIver; her siblings: William “Bill” McIver (Virginia Terry), Patricia “Patty” Green (John), and John McIver (Virgie Noel); and her niece, Katie Krabi.
Gayle grew up in the west end of Toronto, attending St. Joseph’s College School. She went on to study nursing at Memorial University in Newfoundland. Her career spanned working as a public health nurse in Toronto to the remote northern community of Churchill, Manitoba, and finally to Houston, Texas where she worked as a nurse for over 25 years and advanced to become a nurse manager at Kelsey-Seybold.
She was a passionate nurse, dedicated to her patients frequently going above and beyond to advocate for their needs. When working the ER, she was a force to be reckoned with, able to handle anything and everything. A caregiver, in every sense of the word.
Gayle made friends everywhere she went. Whether it was vacationing in the maritimes with her family as a young child to her time working in the north of Canada, her fun loving and outgoing personality led to a collection of loyal friends that she maintained across the decades. She could often be overheard on the phone telling a story to friends and family, struggling to get the words out over her own laughter.
But ultimately, her family and especially her daughters were her pride and joy. From early morning swim practices, to lavish holiday meals, to handmade Halloween costumes or making crocheted blankets for her daughters, it was easy to see the commitment she put into being a mother.
The family would like to invite those wishing to celebrate her life to Gayle’s favourite restaurant, Don Ramon’s on February 1st, 4–8 PM.
