Virginia's obituary

After a courageous three year battle against pancreatic cancer,  Virginia "Ginger" Rose Kushman (formerly Dickerson) passed away peacefully at the age of  78, in her home in Gilbert, Arizona, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born to Elmer and Irene Rausch of Colwich, Kansas on April 13, 1944, Ginger received her nickname when her brother, Donald (age 3 at the time) couldn't pronounce Virginia, so he called her Ginger.  Her father,  took a job in Medford, Oregon and moved the family west when Ginger was 3 years old.  After graduating from St. Mary's high school in Medford, Oregon, Ginger balanced her life as wife,  mother and hairdresser where she made lifelong friends for nearly 20 years. In 1983 she graduated from Southern Oregon State  College and began a rewarding 20 year career as an elementary  school teacher where she shared her love of life and learning, enlightening  many children's lives. After retiring from Central Point School District in 2003, she became a flight attendant for Alaska Airlines, lighting up passengers days for nearly 4 years. She met and married the love of her life, Greg Kushman in 2008.  Ginger's love, beautiful smile and warm heart will be held dearly by her 99 year old Mother, Irene Rausch; Husband Greg Kushman; Two sisters - Dorothy Compton and Ramona Rausch; Children:  Debbie Rivers, Angie Sandblast (husband Ken), Bryan Dickerson (wife Lisa) and  Greg Kushman's daughters - Mary Avellino (husband Rob), and Haley Reinke (husband Josef); 8 grandchildren: Katelyn Rivers (husband Javi Recio), Blake Rivers,  Amanda Rivers, Reed Sandblast, Kenna Sandblast, Hailey Dickerson, Jordan Dickerson, Costner Reinke; and 1 great granddaughter: Valentina Recio Rivers.

Ginger was a devoted wife, incredibly loving and giving mother, adoring "Nana", sister, and friend, whose loving and kind heart will be missed forever. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 16 at 12pm Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church 600 Beebe Rd, Central Point, OR 97502

Celebration of life reception 1pm at Shepherd of the Valley parish hall. Wear Ginger's favorite color, red ♥️
