Virginia's obituary
Virginia Mary Cogan, age 91, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2021, in Houston, Texas. She was born to William and Mary (Goerig) Beck on April 8, 1930 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and named after the Virgin Mary. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in Allentown, PA, and studied at Leigh County Community College, where she was on the Dean’s List. Over her lifetime, she lived in Pennsylvania, California, Florida, and Texas. She married John Cogan in 1976, and they were married for 41 years until his death in 2017.
Virginia enjoyed gardening, reading, watching classic movies, and corresponding and visiting with family and friends. She also loved playing card and board games and especially Mexican Train dominoes with her friends and grandchildren. She will be most remembered for being a good neighbor and friend and the best pen-pal one could have.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sister, Mary Schickram; and brother, William Beck, Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Windish; daughters, Susan Mundy Beck and husband Randy Catron of Silver City, NM, Karen Ledbetter and husband J.R. of Houston, TX, and Pattie Frazier and husband Randy of Houston, TX; step-son Bruce Cogan and wife Diana of Wyomissing, PA; grandchildren Kara Frazier Perlman and husband Rome, Kameron Frazier, Jeff Ledbetter, Norma Ledbetter, and James Ledbetter III and wife Bea; great-grandchildren, Victoria Moehlman and husband Chase, Colby Ledbetter, Alyssa Rivas, James Ledbetter IV; great-great grandchildren, Astácia Garcia, and Amelia and Delilah Moehlman; and many loved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the Veterans Funeral Service chapel in Houston, TX, with visitation at 1:30 PM and the service at 2:00 PM.
