Ruth's obituary

  • It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Ruth  McKay, a woman of extraordinary warmth and kindness, who departed this world on February 16, 2026. Born on November 10, 1938, to the late John Cecil McIntyre and Lucinda McIntyre, Ruth's life was a testament to her deep love for her family, pets, and the simple pleasures of life.

Ruth was the loving mother to Karen, Ken, and John Mckay, who are left to cherish her memory. She was also a doting grandmother to Chad, Paige, and Justin Mckay. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim Mckay.  And 10 older siblings, she was the youngest. And tragically, she was also predeceased by her grandson, Jordan Cox. She lives on in the hearts of her great-grandchildren, Liam Marshall, and Leah Sharp, who will remember her fondly.

Among the many things that brought joy to Ruth's life were her favorite beverages, particularly Coke, and her love for the music of Elvis Presley. She was a devoted fan of the Edmonton Oilers, both on the ice and on her favorite TV show, which was watching the Edmonton Oilers play. She was a Star Wars enthusiast, and her favourite local hangout was Friday nights at the Legion. Ruth was an avid walker and found joy in taking her family swimming. These activities reflected her love for her family and her favourite way to exercise. Her favorite spot to unwind and vacation was Fairmont Hotsprings BC. Her dedication to the welfare of pets demonstrated her compassionate nature. She had a soft spot for the color navy blue, which reflected the depth of her personality.

Ruth's resolution was, "Be kind to each other", a sentiment she embodied throughout her life. She found beauty in her children's swimming performances and carried this admiration to her recreational activities that invariably included her beloved family.

Ruth McKay lived a life filled with love and kindness. Her warm and kind personality will be ardently missed by all those who knew her. Her impact will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of those she held dear.
