Virgilio's obituary

MSC Virgilio Ambolario Donghit, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 3, 2021. Bill dedicated 26 years of his working career to the United States Navy and then eventually retiring again as a merchant marine with the Seafarers International Union.

Virgilio was born on July 14, 1942 in San Pablo, Leyte, Philippines to his parents Pablo and Emiliana Donghit. When Bill was just 22, Bill joined the United States Navy. He was then sent to San Diego, California for schooling as a mess cook.

Two years after joining the Navy, Virgilio and Soledad married on September 6, 1966. During Virgilio's time in the Navy, the couple were able to travel all over the world, residing in many states, Guam, South Korea and the Philippines. After his military service, Bill continued working to support his family to eventually retire again with the Merchant Marines.

Upon his second retirement, the couple moved to the Philippines where they built a home in Calamba City. There, the two traveled throughout the country shopping, eating out and enjoying each others company. Virgilio also enjoyed the favorite Filipino pastime of raising his "chickens". They made annual trips to the United States to spend time with their grandchildren.

Virgilio was predeceased by his father, Pablo; mother, Emiliana; brother, Danny; brother, Jose; brother, Hermie; and nephew, James. He is survived by his wife, Soledad; daughter, Cindy; son, Jay; sister, Felicidad; brother, Romy; a number of nieces and nephews; and his grandsons.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am at the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Followed by the burial at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:00 pm and reception at 4:00 pm.
