Kay's obituary
With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Violet "Kay" Tingen, better known as Kay, who peacefully left this earthly life on the evening of January 3, 2024. Born on September 22, 1961, Kay's life was filled with love, care, and immense affection for her family and friends. She could even turn a stranger into her best friend in about thirty minutes!
Kay's caring and motherly nature instantly drew everyone closer to her. She strongly believed in loving others unconditionally and gave us many examples of her doing just that. She drew people in with her empathy and willingness to listen. Most of the friends she met along the way ended up knowing her as "Mama" or "Sister". She was certainly a picture of God's love to the hurting and wounded people that crossed her path.
Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, whose lives she touched in innumerable ways. From sleepovers with Nana Kay to unplanned midnight dinners to random, impromptu trips to the mountains or beach, Nana Kay's was the place to be if you wanted spontaneity and action. You never left her house feeling alone, and you certainly never left hungry!
Kay's personality, love, and guidance were sought by many throughout her lifetime, and she was a 'can-do' woman who had the answer to anything, no matter how hard or messy a situation was. She always did what she felt was right, and made no qualms about it in the meantime. All of her actions here on earth have left a lasting legacy of laughter, comfort, and closeness.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Lonnie Tingen, and her father, Lynwood Caldwell.
Kay is survived by her sons, John David Mowrer Jr. (wife, Chelsea), Aaron Mowrer and her step-sons, Lonnie B. (wife, Kathy) and Jeffery Tingen. Kay's grandsons, Noah, Liam, Camron, and William "Billy" Mowrer, were the center of her universe. They will forever remember their beloved grandmother, whose endearing presence shaped their lives in beautiful ways.
Kay's life will be celebrated in a memorial service on January 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Liberty Wesleyan Church, 15303 US 158, Summerfield, NC, 27358. This will be an occasion for friends and family to come together to honor Kay's beautiful life and reminisce about the countless joyful memories shared with her. Please dress casually as Kay would not want anyone to be uncomfortable!
As we mourn the loss of Kay, remember that her spirit, imbued with love and care, will continue to live on through the lives she touched and the lessons she imparted. If you ever need to feel close to her, brew a pot of coffee and sit down to listen to some old gospel songs and she will meet you there.
