Message from Veronique Tran:
My mom, Vinh Thi Nguyen, was an inspiration to me and my sister - we were the first in our family to go to college.
My mom was only able to attend middle school in Vietnam as she was the oldest and helped care for her 5 siblings. As the matriarch of a Vietnamese refugee family starting a new life in America in 1975, my mom sacrificed so much for our family. She constantly reminded my sister and me about the value of education and the opportunities it would open for us. Our career success has been possible because of our college education. We started taking classes at Community College and then transferred to University.
Our family will establish the “Vinh Thi Nguyen Memorial Scholarship Fund” in our mom's memory for students who are the first in their family to attend college.
