My condolences to Victor's family. Vic had a wonderful mind and soul. I worked with him over the years on several of his fascinating projects. He helped my through a tough time in my life as well, and I always was grateful for it. I was lucky enough to have spent some times with him over that last 8 years and enjoy sharing ideas and memories with him. RIP good man.
Vic Kley gave me my first job and my wife and I remained close friends with Vic and Helen for forty-five years. Vic loved Berkeley but I moved away, eventually settling in Maine, but we always kept in touch. We never came out West without a visit to the Berkeley hills and a delightful afternoon of discussions that could range anywhere. Vic was a problem-solver and he would call me or I would call him on a regular basis. If I had a problem that involved anything mechanical Vic was the first person I would think to ask, and I remember many many times when his insight and spontaneity just amazed me. I'll never forget the day he invited me to fly over the East Bay while he was getting certified to fly on instruments only, and the turbulence was awful! I made myself fall asleep! I knew there was zero chance something could go wrong with Victor at the controls, but the shaking up and down and side to side was too much to be awake! I awoke as we landed. Naturally Vic passed with flying colors.
