Victor's obituary

Victor Manuel Fernandez, 68, of Elizabeth, NJ, passed away at Overlook Medical Center Monday, December 10, 2018, surrounded by his loving family after battling an aggressive form of ALS.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at Corsentino Home for Funerals, 620 Second Ave. and John St., Elizabeth. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, December 14th from 4pm to 8pm. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 15th at 10 am.

Victor was born April 21, 1950 in NYC, NY to Victor and Nidia Altagracia Fernandez (nee Vasquez) of the Dominican Republic. He came to Elizabeth in the late 1950’s where he attended Holy Rosary Elementary School, St. Patrick’s High School, and Jefferson High School. He graduated from Hartford Institute for Accounting, now University of Hartford, and was an accountant for ten years before turning his hobby of photography into a 26 year long career. With his wife, her sister, and brother-in-law, he co-owned JoAnne’s Luncheonette on Third Ave., Elizabeth for 35 years. He was a brother of the Knights of Columbus and Fraternal Order of the Moose.

Victor was both the life of a party and a quiet craftsman, equally enjoying starting a conga line, tinkering in his workshop or fishing on the side of a lake. He always had a joke to share and maintained his sense of humor through all his health challenges. Above all, he was a loving husband to his wife of 45 years, and a super-dad.

Victor is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Fernandez (nee DeMarco); daughter, Victoria Marie Fernandez, her husband, Cedric Johnson; his daughter by love, Evelyn Salinas (nee Malave), her husband, Jeremy, children, Carina and Jeremy; sister-in-laws Marie Pasko (Chris) and JoAnne DeVito (Joseph); brother-in-law Louis DeMarco; aunt, Maria Rosa Castillo; cousins, including Antonio Castillo (Eliana), Daniel Vasquez (Altagracia), Anneris Gamez (Aurello); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving parents, father-in-law, Joseph DeMarco, and mother-in-law, Nancy DeMarco (nee DeLuca).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the ALS Association at alsa.org.
