Vicky's obituary
Vicky Lynn Brecht was born on November 4, 1956 in Kaiserslautern, Germany to Herbert and Bertha Adams. She grew up with her parents and siblings, Roxann, Sheilah, Randy, and Shannon, crisscrossing states as an army family, with West Bend, Iowa as their home base.
Vicky was fun loving. In high school, she skydived out of a helicopter and joked that she could wallpaper the school gym with her absence slips from skipping school.
Vicky was also whipsmart. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa, where she met Rob and helped him graduate too. They got married and moved to Arizona where they had two kids, Robbie and Harrison.
When the kids were young, she took a break from work to raise them and pursue her CPA. She was volunteering in the kids’ classes while taking her own classes on financial accounting and the tax code.
After she passed the CPA exam, she became the controller at General Metals where she worked for over 20 years. She called herself a “fun accountant.”
Vicky was a devoted and excellent mother. She loved her children deeply. She saw her sons so clearly and provided them with exactly what they each needed.
She welcomed Rachelle and Jon into the family as her own children. And she was absolutely over the moon to become Grandma to Caleb who was the light of her life over the last two years.
She had a fantastic sense of humor and a big contagious laugh. People would say “your family seems so fun” and “like you really enjoy each other.” It was true. And she was a big reason why.
Vicky and Rob created a home where all were welcome. It was the go-to place for big celebrations and last minute get-togethers. It was also a place you could stay a few nights or a few years, if you needed to.
She loved all of her people so much. She was generous and always ready to help. And all of that love came back to her in the last few years as her people showed up to accompany her on her journey.
