Vickie's obituary

Vickie Arlene Mosley was born on June 30, 1959, to Hugh and Catherine Mosley, the youngest in a blended family of 15 children. Vickie grew up in Frankford, MO and many of her fondest memories were from her childhood years living “In the little gray house on the hill”. On January 21, 1978, Vickie was united in marriage to Gary Lee Hastings Sr. Together, they raised four children while following her wandering heart. A little time spent in a lot of small towns across rural NEMO, finally landed the family “On a hill of their own” the summer of 1990, in Lakenan, MO. Roots were planted, but as all who wander but are not lost know, they would not grow deep. In the mid 00’s, with a newly emptied nest, the couple moved to their final Earthly “House on the hill”. This time, roots took hold, intertwining with those of the trees amongst which their little home is nestled. Countless memories have been made on this hill, just outside of Monroe City, MO in a place called Rocky Holler. Some of the most treasured of these are painting, crafting, sewing, scrapbooking, and woodworking to create handmade, heirloom gifts for family and friends. Memories made around the fire pit, taking turns riding the summer sled up and down the hill, and annual egg hunts are family favorites. In addition to spending time with family, Vickie enjoyed trips in the camper, catching (not eating) fish, nature walks, singing and listening to gospel music, studying her Bible, staying in touch with family and friends on social media, and was an avid reader. More than anything, she loved holding hands with her beloved husband, best friend, and partner of 45 years.

Vickie dedicated her 64 ½ years on Earth entirely to serving God and her family. On November 12, 2023, her dedication was rewarded, when she was called to join her parents, siblings: Leroy (Mary {d.}), Diane (Lawrence {d.}), Rachel, Joanne (Jack {d.}), Delores (Donald), Janice (Ronnie), and too many nieces and nephews, in preparing the most beautiful of all her homes. This one, her eternal, “Heavenly home on the hill”. Vickie’s beloved husband, Gary; their four children: Angela (Richard), Gary Jr. (Rebecca), Michele (Tyler), and Katie (James); 19 grandchildren: Levi (Lacy), Kinsey, Julia, Abigail, Joshua, Cole, Caden, Chase, Ethan, Hunter, Anthony, Callie, Alex, Alayna, Aaron, Mercedes, Madison, Paige, and Sophia; great-grandchild: Claire; siblings: Stoney (Phylis), Ray (Darlene), Wayne (Rhonda), Sonny, Shirley (Frank {d.}), Ronnie (Becky {d.}), Sharon (Charlie {d.}), and Cathy (Gene); as well as many nieces and nephews, look forward to the day they may join her in Heaven.

A small, public Celebration of Life will be held at the Methodist Fellowship Hall, 108 W. Spruce St. in Shelbina, MO on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 4-7 pm. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, St. Louis Children's Hospital, Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF), or the Epilepsy Foundation.
