Vicente's obituary

Vicente “Big V” Llana Jr, 72, of Miami, FL, passed away on January 23, 2024 after a long valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Vicente was born on July 22, 1951 to Vicente & Ana Llana in Holguín, Cuba. After graduating from Academia Santa Teresita (PR) in 1969, he went on to earn his Bachelor’s in Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez (PR).

After graduating in 1975, he landed his first job in engineering at Motorola. However, in 1981 he got an offer to work for IBM. He achieved so much success before his retirement in 2005. Parkinson’s had taken a toll on him and he made the hard decision to retire.

Vicente met his wife, Lucia, at her sister’s (Cristina) home in 1980, and their love story began. They married on July 4, 1981. Every anniversary he would say, “I lost my independence on Independence Day!” In 1986 Michelle was born & in 1990 Vincent Phillip was born.

Vicente was a huge soccer fan. Many knew him as “Big V.” He was the man on the sideline with the “paparazzi” large lens camera. He took some of the most amazing action shots of Vincent, Michelle, and their teammates.

Vicente was predeceased by his parents Vicente & Ana Llana. He is survived by his wife Lucia, his children, his brother, and nieces & nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at Saint Brendan’s Catholic Church (Miami, FL) on Friday February 9 at 12:30 pm. Please refer to the events tab for more information.
