Vern's obituary
Vernon E. Stinson, 87, of Bullhead City, AZ, passed away at home on April 3, 2023. Vern was born on January 13, 1936 to Kathryn and Daniel Stinson in Washington D.C. After graduation from Bethesda-Chevy Chase Senior High School in 1954, Vernon served in the United States Navy from 1954 through 1958. His time in the service left Vern with many long time friends and made him a lifelong supporter of the U.S. Navy Midshipman football team.
Following graduation from the University of Maryland in 1961, Vern moved to Blythe, California and began his career teaching English at Palo Verde High School. He read thousands of compositions in over 30 years as an educator. During a sabbatical from Palo Verde High School, Vern earned his Master’s degree at the University of Oregon. He ended his career helping students with research as the PVHS librarian. While in Blythe, Vern was married to Joyce Russell for 11 years and his daughter Joie Stinson was born.
In retirement, he moved to Bullhead City, Arizona after reconnecting with Anne Bosworth. Vern was an avid genealogist, tracing his family’s roots and connecting with distant relatives. He loved to read, watch sports and spend weekends exploring the desert in his Jeep.
Vern is survived by his daughter, Joie Stinson; his three grandchildren, Alyssa Stinson, Caitlyn Stinson-Diess and Daniel Stinson-Diess; one great-grandson Noah Camacho; his sister Linda Loving; and his long-time companion Anne Bosworth.
