Verna's obituary
Verna Lee Huskey of Harrisonville MO passed away on March 12, 2022. She was born in Maplewood, MO as the second child of Vera (Calbreath) Huskey and Hyrum Huskey, both of whom are deceased. Following her father's second marriage, five additional siblings were born. Verna Lived most of her life in or near the Kansas City area. Until her retirement, she had worked in a variety of positions as a receptionist, envelope factory production line worker, medical assistant and as a long-term member of the security force at Crown Center in Kansas City.
Verna never had children of her own but is perhaps best remembered as the "unofficial mom" and loving aunt of two adopted daughters, in addition to five nephews, six nieces, five great nephews and five great nieces that were born to later siblings and their offspring. Verna followed the activities of all of them and could never have enough photographs or the latest information. She was gregarious in personality and enjoyed socializing with all types of people. Accompanying her anywhere required patience as she stopped frequently to talk with strangers and acquaintances alike.
Verna was a prolific and accomplished acrylics artist who enjoyed giving away many of her paintings. She also enjoyed travel-especially with her cousin Myrna during the last few years-and she loved watching her Kansas City Royals beat up on other baseball teams!
Verna is survived by five of her six siblings: Hyrum Huskey Jr of Las Vegas, NV; James W. Huskey of Spokane, WA; Dianne Reimal of Harrisonville, MO; Mary Brentlinger of Pulman, WA; and Richard Huskey of Wolforth, TX.
While in hospice care Verna spoke frequently of her abiding conviction that she would pass peacefully and be received into the arms of her Savior. In the final hour of her seventy-ninth birthday, seemingly like an exact appointment, she did exactly that.
The family plans a private memorial service at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, you local Hospice care organization or your own charity of choice.
