It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Venita, who peacefully left us on November 25,2024 at the age of 80. She was surrounded by family, the people who meant the most to her, in her final moments.
Born on November 27,1943, in Decatur Texas, Venita was the daughter of Otho and Thelma Lisby. Venita Graduated from Diamond Hill. Following High School, she went on to work in insurance for several years before finding her home at Fort Worth City Credit Union where she would retire in 2008 after 28 years.
Venita was a loving mother, wife, GiGi, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Known for her kind heart, unwavering strength, and unselfish generosity. Her nurturing nature extended far beyond her immediate family. Venita was a friend to many, and her home was always open to those in need. She had a unique way of making everyone feel welcome, and her kindness was evident in everything she did. From hosting countless keno nights to being the first to remember a birthday or anniversary, she never missed a chance to make everyone in her life feel loved and appreciated. Her ability to bring out the best in others made her not just a family member but a guiding presence in the lives of those around her.
Venita was predeceased by her mother and father, Otho and Thelma Lisby, her first husband Billy Powell and second, Robert Egler and her siblings Joan, Rumell, Martha, Bobby Neal, Gwen, Ben and Gerry.
Venita is survived by her son Jeff Powell and wife Tonya as well as her daughter, Laurie Gandy. Her Grandchildren Michael Powell and wife Lindsey, Devin Powell, Jordan Powell and wife Alisha, Lauren Etheridge and husband Peter, Hayley Short and husband Dustin, and Drew. Her Great-Grandchildren, Jackson Powell, Vivian Powell, Marti Powell, Grayson Powell, Jamison Powell, Peter Etheridge, Hazel Short and Emma Short. Sisters, Beverly Lindsey and husband Jerry and Sue Dodgen and Husband Don. Brother, Jerry Lisby. She also has many, many very loved nieces, nephews, cousins and more!
A celebration of Venita's life will be held at 11am on Monday, December 2nd at The First Baptist Church of Horseshoe Bend. We will follow the service with a lunch at Rio Mambo in Weatherford. Please let either Tonya or Lauren know if you would like to join us for lunch so we can ensure we have plenty of seats!

Though she is no longer with us in person, Venita will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
