Vellettia's obituary
Vellettia Louise Alverson—known affectionately as Vet to many and Granny Mam to those who loved her most—passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on August 31, 2025, just days before her 76th birthday.
Born on September 10, 1949 to Marjorie Ellen Louise and Gene Ball, Vet lived a life of deep faith, boundless generosity, and unshakable joy. She walked closely with Jesus, and her life was a beautiful reflection of His love. If you met her, chances are she shared that love with you—through a kind word, a heartfelt prayer, or simply her infectious laugh.
Vet had a rare gift for making people feel seen, known, and loved. She was funny, warm, and endlessly kind. She adored animals—especially her beloved cat, Possum—and she could often be found dancing in the kitchen to her favorite Elvis Presley songs. Music, laughter, and the presence of family made her heart sing.
A caregiver in every sense of the word, Vet dedicated her life to nurturing others. Whether you were family by blood or by love, she was there when you needed her—ready with open arms, a hot meal, or the kind of wisdom only a Granny Mam could offer.
The love of her life, Ken Alverson, passed away in 2002, and Vet spent the years since looking forward to their reunion in Heaven. Now, their love story continues, eternal and whole.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Tommy, and her stepson, Lance, and we take comfort in knowing they are all together again.
She leaves behind a legacy of faith and family. Vet is survived by her stepfather, Doug Toombs; sisters, Shirley and Raymona; daughter, Tami; stepdaughters, Sherri, Valerie and Wendy; stepsons Dean and Chris; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry her memory and her love forward for generations to come.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that Vet is finally home—with her Savior, with her Ken, and with the peace she so faithfully trusted in all her life.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
