Vance was such a great friend. Funny, intelligent, kind, and honorable. He always picked up a conversation, effortlessly, as if we had spoken the day before. Even if it had been years. Vance was such a rare & joyful person. His spark & verve is so evident in his beautiful sons. May the enduring love Vance poured into his life be a comfort, amongst such unimaginable grief, for his family. Abbie, Mateo, & Sammy: We love you.

What didn't I learn from this amazing, strong, kind, selfless guy, is the question! I have never known a man like Vance who gave his all in each and everything he did, whether it was being a husband, dad, friend; you name it he put his all into it. That is why those who knew him either as a friend, relative or fellow soldier have a hole in our heart that is so large after his passing. There will never be another Vance!
