It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Valerie "Val" Whitmer who was called to rest on January 11, 2026. Val was born on July 27, 1948, and her journey on earth was characterized by a warm and curious personality that will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Val is survived by her loving husband, Ben Whitmer, and their cherished daughters, Kimberly Whitmer and Olivia O'Hare. She cared deeply for her granddaughter, Sydney. Her devoted Chihuahua, Barney, also lives on.

Ever passionate about quilting and sewing, Val was an accomplished artist within her realm, winning multiple quilt show awards. She was a firm believer in the virtue of originality, always encouraging others to "make your art your own, the instructions aren't important." Her dedication to her craft was only matched by her devotion to family and her compassion for animals.

Val loved to visit Disney World with her two daughters. She had a penchant for watching YouTube travel vlogs as she sewed. She traveled across the globe with her quilting group friends to such places as Japan, France, and Canada. She loved to go on Alaskan cruises with her beloved husband. Exploring new places and cultures was a lifelong passion for her.
