Lovingly referred to as Aunt Val by everyone who knew her, Valerie's infectious smile and friendliness lifted the spirits of those around her. Her personality was vibrant, friendly, funny, cheerful, spontaneous, and loving. She was a passionate foodie with a special fondness for steak, and Budweiser was her drink of choice.

She had been an accomplished athlete in her youth, playing multiple sports. She loved to travel and some of her favorite vacation spots were England, Florida, and Ireland, where she created numerous joyful memories.
Valerie’s love for her work family was abundantly clear through the stories she told about them, indicating they were the reason she never retired. She also had many adoring stories about the O’Connell family, whom she lived with in her later life.
