Valerie's obituary
Valerie Ann Howard (Gramby)
April 29, 1961 - February 12, 2025.
On the morning of February 12th, 2025, Valerie Howard's life was tragically taken from her.
Despite the hardships she faced throughout her life, Valerie remained soft, kind, and compassionate.
She was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan, loved camping, boating, and soaking up the soothing sounds of the ocean waves. She enjoyed playing pool with her crew in Ottawa, Kansas, and was especially proud of the work she did for the City in Overland Park, Kansas for 10 years. She loved travelling with her best friend and soul-sister Joyce.
Valerie did the best she could all of her life under various tragic circumstances. She was warm, funny, and would take the shirt off of her back to help those in need.
She often listened to Taylor Swift, Megan Thee Stallion, Lady Gaga, and many other female pop stars and rappers- she said were strong female figures who weren't afraid to be themselves.
Her favorite radio station was 95.7 The Vibe, and she loved to sing all the wrong lyrics and dance to her heart's content. She enjoyed a nicely cooked steak and a delicious sweet tea. She loved watching movies and TV shows, crafting and crocheting.
Valerie was especially proud of her granddaughters. She often said they were the most beautiful, smart and loving humans she had ever known. She loved them with every fiber of her being. She would want them to know that no matter what life throws at you, always stand up for yourself, stay strong in the face of adversity, and never back down from speaking up for what is right.
Valerie wished to be cremated and set out to sea. Her daughter and son-in-law will see that her wish is fulfilled. There will be no funeral, as Valerie did not want one. She just asked that we all gather to celebrate the very short life we have all been gifted. She told us to "Eat, drink, and be merry!" We ask that you honor her every day by showing up as your most authentic self, advocating for yourself and those less fortunate, loving yourself and all those around you, and above all, being whoever the hell you want to be.
She was proud of her country and often tried to be the change in the world she wished to see.
She leaves behind her daughter Leah Ash (31), her son-in-law John Ash (31), her soul-daughter LaToyia Sandlin (30) and, her beautiful granddaughters Athena (9) and Sariah (8
