Valerie's obituary
Valerie Bland, affectionately known as Val, Babe, Aunt Darie, Mommy, and Nana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and love. Born in Akron, Ohio, on September 1, 1968, she was the cherished daughter of the late James R. Pruitt and Shirley Pruitt.
Valerie was a proud graduate of Central-Hower High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from The University of Akron. She later pursued her passion for helping others by obtaining an Associate Degree in Nursing from Eastern Gateway Community College, along with multiple certifications in social services, working as a dedicated social worker. Valerie’s life was a testament to her strength, perseverance, and compassion.
A woman of deep faith, Valerie was a devoted member of Cascade Faith Ministries. She lived her life in service to others, working at both the Community Health Center and Job and Family Services, where she offered kindness and support to everyone she met. Her commitment to uplifting others left a lasting impact on her community.
Valerie shared 28 beautiful years of marriage with her loving husband, Donald Bland, and was a devoted mother to Chapri (Terry), Donia, Tiani, and Tiffany. Her greatest joy came from her role as “Nana” to her beloved grandchildren: Jaylen, Cienna, Dominic, Naiyah, Kairi, and Cyrus. She brought warmth, humor, and light into every room, whether through her love of drawing, attending concerts, or simply spending time with her family and friends.
Valerie is survived by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, and loving sisters Voncia and Dana (Terrance). She is preceded in death by her parents and her dear nephew, Deonte.Her legacy of love, laughter, strength, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
