Valerie's obituary

Valerie Barkley

October 27, 1954 – April 18,2026

Valerie Barkley, born on October 27, 1954, in Jacksonville, Florida, passed away surrounded by the love of her family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Evangeline Christine Holder; her father, Hollis Quinn Ray; and her brother, Dennis Oxendine.

Valerie is lovingly remembered by her devoted spouse, Donald Nelson Barkley; her children, Tameko Martin (James Martin), Eric Reagan, and Brandi Carr (Ryan Carr); and her cherished grandchildren, Aaron Martin (Patrixia Martin), Brianna Martin, Colin Martin, Emma Martin, Elena Reagan, and Xander Reagan. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, her brother Kenny Ray (Angela Ray), and her sister Karlene Morris (Jim Morris), along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Valerie found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and loved cheering on Chase Elliott during NASCAR races. Above all else, Valerie treasured time spent with her family, who were the center of her world.

A celebration of Valerie’s life will be held on May 1, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church (485 Shores Blvd), with refreshments to follow at Valerie’s home.

In lieu of flowers, Valerie requested that donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation in her honor.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
