Background
In part as a response to her childhood in war torn Berlin, Ulla had an abiding desire to protect children. And because she firmly believed in practicing what one preaches, Ulla and Ed, for many years opened their home to children in crisis, both through the county’s child protective services and informally. The greatest manifestation of Ulla's ability to provide mothering, of course, was the adoption of two of her four children.
