I am so sorry for your loss. I hadn't heard from Ulli since after Maureen passed, and am sad to learn of his passing earlier this month. I am so thankful for having known him, and for his help in identifying my family's heritage. I live in Texas and have 4 siblings living in various states across the US. We are cousins of Ulli.

My family had tried to track down our German heritage for years, without any luck. My father (James Mund-cousin of Irmi) believed his father (Wilhelm Mund-brother to Hermann) was born in Germany, even though he'd denied that. Then my dad passed in 94, and my siblings and I continued trying to connect the dots. Through a crazy turn of events (and Ulli's help), this changed in the early 2000's.

First, I met (and later married) a German, and asked for his help to translate a will my father had for Anna Mund (Irmi's grandmother), in hopes of unlocking the mystery. He couldn't interpret it (an old form of the language), so he enlisted his parents' help (living in Germany). Thankfully they were! They accessed German phone records, located a number to Irmi's residence, and called it. Ulli followed up with us, and when he did, we were so excited to finally have proof of our family's heritage!

Irmi knew about my dad and had lots of memories to share. Ulli was so kind to provide us with photos and family history that we hadn't known before, and that my siblings and I now cherish.

If anyone would like to get in touch with Munds in the US, I would love to keep the connection alive. I'm not sure that there are any Munds left in Germany from our family, and sadly enough, the name ends with my generation in the US. My brother's sons are no longer with us, and his daughter is married. My three sisters and I are all married (though I still cling to the family surname-but that's a whole other story). Still, family is family. My siblings and I will always be Munds. We each consider ourselves very fortunate to be raised in a loving family with solid moral values, and continue to carry on my father's presence in our lives and in our own families.

Again, condolences to you and your family. And please know, Ulli means a great deal to all of us.

Fairwell Onkel Ulli. Much love to Kevin, Jenn, Richard, Jane and Arielle ❤️
