Ugo's obituary
Ugo Mario Mamolo passed away on Oct. 24, 2021, of complications from pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 85. Ugo was a long-time resident of West Los Angeles and was well known as a pillar of the Los Angeles community for over five decades. He spent the last five years of his life living in Mission Viejo, CA.
Born in Trieste, Italy, on May 17, 1936, Ugo grew up as one of four children in a loving family. He immigrated to California at the age of 21 and married the love of his life, Alma, in 1962. Ugo started with a mere $1.25 in his pocket, but through his hard work and his love of people, he transformed his life into the true American success story. Ugo was the proprietor and co-founder of Viktor Benes Bakeries, a highly successful and beloved bakery chain across Southern California that has become a staple in many households.
Ugo was also the anchor of the Mamolo family, a role model for many, and a shining light to all who interacted with him. His positive, youthful personality was loved by children and adults alike, and his generosity touched the hearts and lives of so many. Ugo was loved by all, and he will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 59 years, their four daughters: Viviana, Sandra, Barbara, and Andria, four sons-in-law, and ten grandchildren. Also surviving him are his two brothers, one sister, and numerous relatives across two continents. Ugo’s values, principles, hard work, and dedication to his family are his legacy; they will be felt, embodied, and passed on by those who knew and loved him.
