Ugo's obituary
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ugo Braccia, as an adolescent entered a charcoal sketch competition at the urging of his high school art teacher. Despite much self-doubt, Ugo won the competition and was awarded a full scholarship to what is now known as University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. This opportunity would prove to be the leading influence in the direction of his professional and avocational lives.
Upon completing his undergraduate training he entered the field of graphic design. Ugo’s career culminated as Design Manager for a division of what is now GlaxoSmithKline plc. In his free time, as a young father, Ugo produced large scale abstract works in acrylic as my brother and I watched. As he matured and moved to rural area in Chester County, PA, he spent most of the temperate months planting trees and shrubbery, creating a sanctuary outdoor space for the family. The cooler months were spent indoors composing watercolor renderings of local landscapes in photographic detail.
In later years, Ugo lived in Naples, Florida enjoying the copious sunlight, the comfort of his companion wirehaired fox terrier, Heidi and watching Phillies baseball games. Over the years, the insidious deterioration of his faculties robbed him of his dexterity and abstract thinking curtailing his creativity. Nevertheless, he maintained a generally pleasant disposition and transitioned to the light shortly after the celebration of his 90th year.
Dad, your presence with us will be sorely missed. We take solace in your having transitioned peacefully and in comfort.
Ugo Braccia is survived by his wife of 60 years, Inez, sons Gregory, Wayne (wife Jennifer) and grandchildren Peter and Ava.
If friends and family are so inclined it is respectfully suggested a charitable gift be made to VITAS® Healthcare (www.vitascommunityconnection.…) in appreciation of the outstanding care Ugo received allowing him to pass with dignity and in comfort.
