My dad didn’t have an easy life. He grew up in ways that most people never see, and he carried things that would have broken a lot of people. There were years that were hard—years shaped by pain, by mistakes, and by choices that weren’t always easy to understand. But that’s not where his story ends. Over the last 15 years, I watched him rebuild his life piece by piece. Not perfectly, not overnight—but intentionally. He chose to keep going. He chose to try again. He chose to be better. And in that, he taught me something I will carry for the rest of my life: That redemption is real. That people can change. That kindness—real kindness—isn’t just who you are when life is easy… it’s who you choose to be when it’s not. He showed me that showing up matters. Even after everything.
