Tyra Jon-Bertucci Dow Cortez passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2024 in Slidell, La.

Tyra was preceded in death by her parents Terry J. Dow, Sr. And Margaret Jean "Jeanie" Bevering Luc.

Tyra was born August 31, 1973 in St. Bernard, La. She was a long time resident of Slidell, La.

She is survived by her husband, Jeremy Cortez, her children Darien Guevara, Hailey Guevara Wills (spouse Austin Wills), Kaden Guevara (spouse Torrie Guevara), Jarin Guevara, and Kamren Guevara, as well as her grandchild Arabella Guevara. She is also survived by her sister, Stephenie Foy, and brothers Terry J. Dow Jr. and Ralph Goodrich, along with many other relatives.

Tyra will always be remembered for her courage, finding comfort and peace at times, but was never able to fully free herself from her inner chaos which was always partially hidden to those around her and which medicine could not cure, counsellors could not quiet, and our affection could not adequately soothe. In the end, despite her courage and our best efforts to help her, the disease was incurable. Her temperament was both her blessing and her curse. When a disease is terminal, all the love and concern in the world can still not bring a cure. But she died inside of our love even as we feel frustrated that our love could not do more to help her. She lives now, still, inside our love and affection, and, God-willing, inside a peace and security that so much eluded her in this life.

It is hard to lose loved ones to suicide, but we should not also lose the warmth of their memory.
