Tyler's obituary

Tyler Pamphile Bohachek (1984 – 2026)

Tyler Pamphile Bohachek passed away in San Diego, California, on March 8, 2026. Born in Ketchikan, Alaska, on January 15, 1984, Tyler had an easygoing manner, a fierce heart, and unshakable confidence that attracted a diverse group from around the world and had an impact that reached people to their core.

A natural athlete, he was the assistant captain of the ice hockey team at Meridian High School in Boise, Idaho. He carried that spirit to the University of Idaho, where he served as Vice President, then President of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He graduated in 2007 with a degree in Landscape Architecture. Before graduation and for several years after, Tyler bartended, then managed, John's Alley in Moscow. Under his guidance, a whole generation of Vandals enjoyed amazing nights of live music from a wide diversity of independent artists and the best party in town.

In 2020, Tyler married Brooke Anderson. Moving to San Diego, California, they began their careers. Brooke, a PhD chemist, worked at Scripps Research and Tyler, a plumbing designer, at Abbott Engineering, which is now Coffman Engineers. Tyler designed plumbing systems for several facilities built for the United States Department of Defense. He created 3-D computer models of plumbing systems. He coordinated his designs with a variety of engineering disciplines, and he supported construction to ensure the final product performed as intended.

With the aid of his mother’s cookbook, Tyler became a great cook. He won the hearts of many with his pies, and his favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. He was known for preparing giant Thanksgiving feasts for friends, family, and even “Thanksgiving first-timers” from other countries, making sure everyone had a place at the table.

His culinary skills reached into prepared food, and he liked to can things like fresh caught tuna, pickles, and hot sauce. People raved about his dilly green beans. Channeling his mother’s southern roots and always the entertainer, he liked throwing shrimp boils for his team at work.

Tyler had a knack for anything requiring physical skills or coordination. Within two days of receiving a unicycle, he could ride it indefinitely without falling. He could shoot a basketball well before his father had a chance to teach him. He could snow ski, always on short skis, backwards almost as well as forwards. His brothers learned early not to challenge his video game dominance.

Tyler's physical skill extended to his music. He was an accomplished pianist, and there is a recording of him playing banjo with an ad hoc group that would be proud to be called a “garage band.”

He was handy with a tool kit, rebuilding an old Datsun 240Z in high school. He was always loved by his employers and landlords for his ability and willingness to fix things around his work and apartment.

Tyler deeply loved the people around him. Nobody was uncomfortable or bored at a party with Tyler. Unfortunately, his comfort with a party became a comfort with, then a need for, alcohol that he could not overcome, even with treatment. After many seizures spurred by detoxing, the final seizure ended in heart failure. He was 42. The universe has been cheated out of the great things that Tyler had yet to accomplish.

Tyler is survived by his wife, Brooke Anderson; his parents, Randy and Kathy Bohachek; his brothers, Aaron and Nate Bohachek; his sisters-in-law, Jessica Hanna and Clémentine Bohachek; his niece, Claire Bohachek; his nephews, Alexander, Olie, and Maël Bohachek; his brothers at Delta Sigma Phi; and countless friends around the world. He was a good friend, a good son, and a good brother.
