Travis's obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Travis Szarek. Born on April 7, 1981 to Walter “Walt” and Melloney Szarek, Travis left us too soon, on October 9, 2022. Known for his humor and playful spirit, Travis was a radiating light in the lives of many. He was a wonderful son, father, brother to three siblings, uncle, and many other things besides. He will be deeply missed.
Travis always seemed to have his interest in helping others and making people laugh. Combined with his playful personality, Travis could effortlessly transform the ordinary into memorable moments. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed talking with everyone. Growing up, he enjoyed ice skating, playing hockey and roller blading. He was always very active and had plenty of energy. Either playing sports or jump between planters in Denver and doing a faceplant. In his adult life, he loved to watch football (especially the University of Utah), adored TV game shows, enjoyed hiking with family, and told many, many dad jokes. He was a great sport, forever willing to play games and run around with the kids in the family.
Travis was also very dedicated. In working at Meadow Gold, he contributed so much to include losing a finger in a batch of batter. He was beloved in his most recent job at Western Nut Company, where he worked as a skilled Warehouse Manager for several years. Work friends can become a kind of second family, especially at a small business like Western Nut. That's how it was with Travis. Many people there love him deeply.
He loved his entire family so much in ways some will never know or understand. Travis beat his battle with drugs through the help of his family and Odyssey House. His battle with alcohol and emotional stress apparently was too much. We all ask ourselves what could we have done better to help him. Travis knew we were all here for him and he always expressed that he really appreciated that. We will ask ourselves many questions and never be able to fully understand. Now, our loving boy is visiting with his grandmas and Uncle John sharing memories and love. Of course, Uncle John will be amazing Travis with his usual wild and crazy stories.
Travis's absence will be profoundly felt by many, including his parents, fiancée, children, step-children, siblings, nieces and nephews, and friends, just to mention a few. His death leaves a void that can never be filled. His memories, however, will continue to inspire laughter and positivity amongst us. His spirit, encompassed by joy, humor and playfulness, will forever be a part of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In these grieving moments, we remember Travis not for his untimely departure but for the joyful life he led, the laughter he spread, and the many hearts he touched. Travis Szarek may have left the mortal world, but his love remains forever woven into the tapestry of our lives. We hope that God will bless him and take care of him.
