Tommy Ray Sampson 1951-2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our husband, dad, brother and papa. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 5th, 2024. He was born on July 3rd, 1951 in Edmonton, AB to Marjorie and Raymond Sampson. He spent most of his childhood in Edmonton with his siblings Nancy and Don. 

Tom was very interested in animals as a young boy; he was lovingly referred to as Tommy Hunter at a young age which later became a big part of his life. He spent many winters travelling to northern Alberta to hunt deer and moose. He enjoyed these trips for the time spent out in nature tracking animals, the friendships he made with other hunters, and the accomplishment of filling many freezers with food. 

Sports were another big passion of Tom's. He played baseball and hockey when he was younger, coached his daughters' baseball teams and spent many years travelling to watch the Toronto Blue Jays play.

Tom and his wife, Bea, loved family vacations, going for walks, watching curling and enjoying their backyard in the summer. His greatest joy was becoming a Papa to his two grandchildren. Tom spent the last two years soaking up as much time as he could holding them, playing with them, and buying them gifts. 

Tom was a very kind and positive person. He loved connecting with people; for the 40 years that he ran his printing business, he established lifelong customers, turned customers into great friendships, and had a career that never felt like work.

He saw the good in everyone and never let challenges get him down. In his two year battle with cancer, he remembered the names of each staff member involved in his care, he always asked how they were doing, and he often led with humour. 

He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by his loving wife of 39 years, Beatrice, his daughters Steph (Graham) and Nicole (Liam), and his two grandchildren Rowan and Asher. 

Special thanks to the staff at the Cross Cancer and University of Alberta hospital for their care and support over the years and our deep gratitude to his sister-in-law, Nurse Clare, who was by his side every step of the way.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the EMS foundation or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
