Tommy's obituary

Tommy R. Lampley, aged 65, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away suddenly on March 18, 2024, leaving his family and community in a state of profound shock and deep sorrow.

Born on July 6, 1958, to Pastor Lewis and Jeri Lampley, Tommy was a cherished member of a vibrant family, including his late brother Gregory, as well as Charles, Rene’, Stephanie, Michelle, Joy, Cojuana, and Angela. A proud graduate of Florida A&M University, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to growth, learning, and service. On December 23, 1983, he married his soulmate, Armanda (Kendrick) Lampley. Their union was blessed with four devoted children, Tommy (married to Inez), Lewis (married to Sarah), Ariel, and Joseph, and graced by eight loving grandchildren: Jordan, Tyler, London, Leo, Kaari, Rudy, Kyro, and the late Legend.

Tommy’s legacy is deeply interwoven with his unwavering commitment to his community, particularly evident in his passion for sports and mentorship. He founded the Child’s Park Eagles AAU basketball program, a testament to his belief in the transformative power of sports. This initiative wasn’t merely about sports training; it provided over 150 young athletes annually with mentorship, structure, and opportunities for personal growth. His innovative approach in linking athletics with education forged new pathways for numerous youths, offering them brighter futures. Collaborating with local prep schools and international scouts, he facilitated educational opportunities in the U.S. for many, amplifying his impact on a global scale.

In his dedication to the family services sector, Tommy’s empathy for the overlooked and mistreated shone brightly. His work with adolescents facing severe behavioral challenges and adults with cognitive impairments exemplified his natural leadership. This commitment culminated in the establishment of his group home business, which, at its peak, provided care and housing for more than two dozen individuals across four Tampa Bay Area locations, showcasing his profound dedication to supporting the vulnerable.

Tommy’s profound influence, driven by his warmth, wisdom, and love, will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. As we gather to honor his memory, we are reminded of a life beautifully lived and the lasting mark he left on his community and beyond. His spirit continues to inspire us all.
