Tom's obituary

Tom (Thomas John) Schlosser, 66, a resident of St. Paul, Minnesota passed away suddenly on May 16, 2024.

Tom was born July 30, 1957, to Clemens John and Marie Josephine (Thome) Schlosser at Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, Minnesota. He was the fifth child born to the couple. The family also included Tom’s siblings Patricia, Jean, Michael, Mary, Joseph, and Kathleen.

Tom attended St. Philip’s Catholic School through sixth grade and then Litchfield Junior and Senior High Schools. He graduated from high school in 1975 and was the Valedictorian of his class.

Tom attended St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota where he graduated in 1979 with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics, computer science and German.

Tom was a unique individual, a person who prided himself on his intellect. He enjoyed playing games such as chess and backgammon. He could be the life of a party, talking to everyone and telling them obscure facts, word derivations and funny stories. He liked to cook and grill and thoroughly enjoyed the pets he had over much of his adult life, especially cats. He was a kind individual who had an interest in a variety of subjects. For many years, Tom was a Wikipedian, enjoying editing and adding to a variety of Wikipedia topics. He also was an afficionado of the Philosopher & Mathematician Bertrand Russell.

Working for several different companies, Tom used his skills as a problem solver. He had a full work life, traveling and spending time in other countries, enjoying their cultures. He also enjoyed learning other languages including French and Spanish.

There were challenges in the last third of Tom’s life from a serious car accident, but he met those challenges to the best of his abilities with perseverance, humor, optimism, and good grace.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Clemens and Marie Schlosser, his sister Kathleen, his maternal and paternal Grandparents and all his aunts and uncles. He is survived by his children, Stuart Rawling of Hastings, MN and Sean Fanning of Minneapolis, MN, and his siblings: Patricia (Chuck) Krekelberg of Pelican Rapids, MN, Jean (Denny) Peterson of Racine, WI, Michael (Shawn Crytser) Schlosser of Chandler, AZ, Mary (Stewart Hazel) Schlosser of Billings, MT and Joseph Schlosser of Minneapolis, MN. He is also survived by his niece and nephews and their families, as well as many cousins.

Tom chose to be a tissue and eye donor. His gift gives hope to many by his donation.

A family service was held on June 19th at Calvary Cemetery in Litchfield, Minnesota where Tom’s ashes will be interred.
