I was devastated to hear this news about Todd, and my heart breaks for his family and loved ones. He was my mentor in high school and extremely influential person in my self development. It is still hard to even think coherently about this loss. It is a blessing beyond measure that I learned the foundations of art from Todd Duell, and I will never forget the wonderful, funny, and sometimes awkward moments in his class as I pushed the boundaries of what I was capable of creating. He was always an attentive and clever teacher, with a unique, dry sense of humor, and odd stories to tell (as well as questionable cat and ketchup recipes to share...). I wish all of his loved ones peace and healing, and faith that he has rejoined Casey and the others who also had to leave the party early.  To anyone else reading this, hurting over this loss, I recommend the album MM...FOOD by MF DOOM. I am so, so sorry.

As a former student of his I was devastated to hear of his passing. He would always make art class fun and memorable and I learned a lot through his teaching. He in my option will always be one of Southerns best teachers.

I was devastated to hear of Mr. Duell passing. As a former student, he made my High School experience memorable. I loved the dry humor from each class and have so many memories and stories to still talk about, with both him and Mrs. Perry. I’m so sorry for you loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. I was one of his students and he was the reason art class was fun. I always loved his weird sense of humor and he was like a father to me. 

I’m so sorry about hearing Todd passed away. I am a former student of his. I always loved going in his class because it always brightened up my day! When he was in class he would always play the song Superstar by Lupe Fiasco and I always love that song and still do. Todd was so sweet and a kind person and loved every one he met. I will be praying for everyone❤️

Mr. Duell made an impact on me that can be described as nothing short of profound. He was the one teacher that I could unapologetically be myself around and he encouraged my weirdness and awkwardness. He was such a detrimental part of not only my highschool era but my life. I talk about him a lot, more than any other teacher because he was one of the only ones that made me feel seen and accepted even when I was not. His classroom was my escape from reality, in his class I had a place. And in my heart he will always have one too. You were the best art teacher a kid could ask for. I’m so sorry to his wife and kids, you had a wonderful partner and parent. Find comfort in eachother and in knowing he changed so many lives.

I'm a former student of his. I just happened to look his name up to see what he was up to. Sometimes life has a twisted sense of humor. He was bar none one of my favorite teachers, and I'm devastated to find this news. His passion for the arts and quick wit will never be matched. He was absolutely instrumental in my upbringing, and his creative spirit is what galvanized me to work creatively as a professional to this day. He will be forever missed, and my condolences go out to his family.
