Toby's obituary

Remembering the life of Toby Hunter High

Toby Hunter High, 41, of Douglassville, Pennsylvania, was born April 11, 1984. He passed away suddenly on December 22, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, leaving behind many who loved him deeply.

Son of Barry Hunter High and Nicole Marie High, Toby was also the father of Christian Hunter High and Anthony John High. He became a father at sixteen. He always loved his children tremendously and was incredibly proud of them. Though their relationships were complex at times, they loved him as well. They shared a love of sports. Christian played football and lacrosse. Anthony plays football for Lebanon Valley College. Every time his children scored, Toby lit up with pride.

As a young child, Toby wore cowboy boots and carried a toy rifle. At night, he said his prayers and blew kisses to the angels. He had the biggest brown eyes that were filled with innocence and curiosity. He was a loving and affectionate boy who cared deeply for his family.

Toby grew up in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, where he attended school and became involved in athletics at a young age. He played football with the Pottstown Youth Athletic League Patriots and later for the Pottstown School District Trojans. He also wrestled through youth and school leagues. He won the Eastern regional wrestling tournament and many others. He was known for his speed and his ability to run touchdowns. Through both football and wrestling, he earned the respect of teammates and coaches. He also enjoyed judo, skateboarding, street hockey, and physical fitness.

Throughout his life, Toby worked hard and took pride in earning his way. He started working at Pizza Hut. He later worked on a trash truck and at a paint-mixing warehouse. Most of his adult work was in pool plastering, along with roofing and construction. He often headed crews, worked long hours, and cared about doing his work well.

Toby was a Christian who loved God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. He was thoughtful and reflective and enjoyed meaningful conversation. The name Toby means “God is good,” a meaning reflected in the sincerity and warmth he showed to others. He was protective and had his own way of looking out for those he loved. If he loved you, there was no one or nothing that could change that. His smile lit the room, and his giggle is known to everyone that has ever met him. Toby loved hard and even through life’s struggles, had a heart of gold! He was helpful, funny, and a joy to be around. He knew the Lord and knew the scripture well. He was both deep and lighthearted at the same time, his life was a joy and a blessing to his loving family and friends.

He shared an exceptionally close and inseparable bond with his mother, Nicole Marie High, and a deep bond with his father, Barry Hunter High. He was very close with his grandparents Jack Shifflette (Poppop), Linda Shifflette (Mommom), and Linda Loose (“Grandmom DC” “Hey Baby” “Granny Number 1”), his great grandparents (Grandmom Frances) Shadle and Frances Wagner (Nan), and also Earl Schwenk (Pop),though not his biological grandfather, also shared a meaningful and loving bond with him.

Toby was very close with his sister Tonya Leisure and her husband Marcus Leisure. He adored Tonya’s sons, Jayce Leisure and Jaydon Leisure, and delighted in her grandchildren—Hailey Gross, Lily Leisure, and Sofia Leisure—treasuring their innocence and joy.

He shared especially close relationships with Aunt Susie Miller, wife of Dan Miller, and with Uncle Rod Smith. He also maintained a close relationship with Aunt Tammy. He was close with his cousins Amber Smith, Stephanie Johnson, Rodney Smith, Joel (JJ) Wilson, Sheena Noss, Brian Allen, Mike High, and Heaven High. He shared a close relationship with Billy High and Kevin High, who preceded him in death.

Toby had a smile for everyone. He connected easily with people from all walks of life, and was kind to everyone he met. He had a natural way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and safe. He loved animals and children and was gentle and attentive with both. He loved storms, good food, deep conversation, and music—especially rap. He was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, a passion he shared with his father and sons.

He had an infectious laugh and a playful sense of humor. He often said whatever came to mind if he thought it would make someone laugh, and he usually laughed right along with them.

Toby’s life included periods of struggle and complexity, but it was also marked by love, kindness, and genuine connection. He was so incredibly giving, always ready to share whatever he had, immediately without hesitation. Toby was part of a family that loves him so much and prayed for him his whole life! We are faithful in knowing he's with his creator and his soul is now present with our precious Lord and savior!

He will be remembered honestly and with love.
