Thresiamma's obituary

Thresiamma Thomas, aged 80, passed away on March 22, 2022. Born in Vaipur, Kerala, India to Joseph and Thresiamma, she was the eldest of six children.

After graduating from St. Theresa’s High School, Thresiamma went on to pursue her Nursing degree at the Wanless College of Nursing in Miraj, Maharashtra. Nursing was her professional passion for more than 50 years and led her to work in Bombay, Saudi Arabia, and, ultimately, the United States. It was during her time in Bombay that Thresiamma met and married her husband of over 51 years, Thomas. Their connection was immediate and unique; it was the foundation for a lifetime of helping family and friends.

Thresiamma’s diligence and drive for success brought her and Thomas to New York in 1975, with their eldest daughter, Simi. In 1979, to their great joy, their second daughter, Lisa, was born. Always driven to achieve excellence, Thresiamma ultimately became Operating Room Asst. Nurse Manager at Booth Memorial Hospital (now New York-Presbyterian Queens), a role in which she took great pride and held until her retirement in 2014. Thresiamma’s integrity, fairness, and professional demeanor not only helped her excel professionally, but were also a cornerstone in the Thomas home – she led by example with her strong work ethic, sense of duty, and resilience.

Thresiamma’s greatest joy in life was family, and nothing brought her more fulfillment than seeing the success and happiness of all those in her life. This was never more true than when she was with her grandson, Hayden. Together they tended to the garden, snuck ice cream cones, laughed at silly jokes, and enjoyed the quiet moments. Whether it was family or the many friends she thought of as family, she never hesitated to help and she will be remembered dearly by the many whom she graced with guidance, support, kindness, and tender care.

Thresiamma is survived by her husband Thomas; daughters Simi and Lisa; son-in-law William; grandson Hayden; siblings Joseph, Nirmala, Rose, Anice, and George; and by many other dear family members who were all touched by the grace of her spirit. She will be deeply missed.
