I am extremely sad to hear about the passing of a fellow Thomas Joseph Young, oddly having the same name as my great grandfather and marrying a women of the same name as my great grandmother I feel especially linked to this man. I would like to get in touch and find out if there is relation to this British side of the Thomas Joseph young community.

A Memory That Still Makes Me Smile

Every Sunday after church, my father had a tradition that made us forget all about stiff shoes, long sermons, and the “don’t fidget” rule. He would take us straight to Dairy Queen for Dilly Bars. To this day, I still enjoy them—not just because they’re good, but because every bite tastes like childhood, laughter, and Daddy’s way of saying, “You did good, kids.”

When we moved to Bartlett, he upgraded our Sundays with joy rides. Now, Daddy didn’t need a theme park. No, he was the theme park. I don’t remember much about the drive up the hill, but I will never forget what happened at the top. The moment he went over that rise, my stomach dropped, butterflies started dancing, and suddenly we were on the best roller coaster in town—no tickets required. Just Daddy, that old car, and his mischievous little grin like he knew exactly what he was doing.

Those moments made church worthwhile, made childhood magical, and made my father unforgettable. Even now, when I taste a Dilly Bar or feel that little flutter in my stomach, I think of him—and I smile.

I keep searching for the right words to say, but there are no magic words to take the pain away.  Just know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you continue to navigate this difficult time.
