Tommy's obituary

Thomas Gerald Waddell, fondly known as Tommy, was born on October 22, 1952,

in the vibrant city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, peacefully passed away on October 26, 2024, at the age of 72. Though he spent his last days in Portage, his spirited presence resonated far and wide, a testimony to a life truly lived. Tommy was a man of many talents and many tales. He could navigate a billiard table with the precision of a master, a skill reflected in the numerous championship trophies he won over the years. However his talents didn’t stop there; he also had a deep-seated love for music, as a drummer he performed with several bands throughout his life. As deep-seated as his love for music was, so also was his love for motorcycles. The roar of an engine on the open road was as much a part of him as his endearing chuckle that followed almost any of his tales and his love for his hometown team the Milwaukee Brewers.

His faith journey, aligned with his moderately religious Christian beliefs, saw him involved in the community at St. John’s Lutheran Church. As an usher and an occasional reader of scripture, he shared his true self—genuine, passionate, and unfailingly supportive.

Though many may have seen him as an adventurous soul with a big spirit, Tom was a protective bear at heart, always ready to stand up for those he cared about, unaffected by stature or size. His vibrant personality guaranteed that acquaintances quickly became lifelong friends.

Tommy was predeceased by his dear parents, Virginia and Gerald Waddell. He is survived by his daughters, Jacquelyn Austin and Elizabeth Guajardo, his sister, Rochelle Waddell, and his cherished partner, Lora Foster—each of whom adored him for his spirited laughter, love for life, and tender protective yet stubborn nature.

The family is planning a funeral service to celebrate Tom’s life, to be held at St. John's Lutheran Church located at 850 Armstrong st Portage, WI 53901. Visitation is being held from 12:00pm-1:45pm and service starts at 2:00pm.

As we put one foot in front of the other through this difficult time, let us draw strength from Psalm 23:4: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." Tom’s laughter and love will linger as a guiding light for us all.
