Thomas More (Domenic) Ready

1952 – 2024

Thomas Ready was born on September 15, 1952, in Palo Alto, California, and peacefully passed away on March 23, 2024, in Toronto at the age of 71.

Thomas, known as Tom, was born to William Bernard Ready and Bessie Dyer. His family settled in various locations including British Columbia, California, and the eastern United States before finally making Hamilton, Ontario, their home.

Tom pursued philosophy at the University of Guelph, where he met the love of his life, Mary Pysch, affectionately known as Marusha. Together for 47 years, they raised two children, Vincent and Brendan. Tom was also cherished by his nieces and nephews: Alex, Adrian, Nora, Desmond, Will, Iris, and Brigid.

He completed a Library Arts degree in just one year at Metropolitan University and contributed significantly to the Ontario College of Art and Design's collection of documentary films on art and design. Tom was deeply passionate about documentaries, actively involved with the Grierson Film Series, and a proactive member of the Ontario Librarians Association.

Tom had an innate sense of design and style, often identifying and appreciating great design in everyday objects, sometimes to Marusha's bemusement. His love for films and documentaries led him to frequent the Toronto International Film Festival, where he indulged in his passion for documentaries.

Growing up in America, Tom developed a love for basketball and baseball. He avidly supported his sons' baseball games, preferring a quiet spot in the outfield away from the bustling crowd.

Family camping trips with Vincent, Brendan, Marusha, and Quincy (the family dog) brought Tom immense joy, highlighting his love for the outdoors.

Tom's quick wit and sense of humor endeared him to many, always brightening the room with his laughter. He was a devoted husband and father who will be deeply missed.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, brother Patrick, and sister Mary. He is survived by his brothers Vince and Liam, and sister Nora.

A Celebration of Life honouring Tom's legacy will be held on September 15th, 2024, from 2 – 5 pm at Album Studios, 92 Geary Avenue. Please join the family in commemorating Tom's love of life.
