Background
Dear Soul Friends and Spiritual Guidance Community Members.
I offer you my heartfelt greetings during this tender time. I hope all of you have had the chance to meaningfully honor Atum’s passing as individuals and with a larger community. May any grief be held within the larger container of gratitude and with a shining appreciation for your journey with Atum.
Atum’s passing has led to a profound reorientation of my inner and outer lives. Part of what has emerged is a profound call to honor Atum’s life and teachings. Working on his legacy with different remembering projects and keeping the Spiritual Guidance Community connected have formed the centerpiece of this call. It is what I am turning to as I navigate my own grief and gratitude.
As you probably know, there was no official memorial for Atum. Atum’s wishes were to be cremated and to have his ashes scattered in places that left a deep imprint on the landscape of his soul. On several occasions, he expressed his desire to have his ashes scattered in his beloved Bhutan. I know all of you intimately witnessed Atum’s love for Bhutan. Bhutan’s astounding beauty, devotion, and graceful purity deeply resonate with the core of Atum’s being. Being in Bhutan was always a great gift of nourishment and renewal for Atum’s soul. He spoke about Bhutan with such love and joyfully led around 15 pilgrimages to Bhutan. Before Atum became sick, he had planned to spend his 80th birthday leading a pilgrimage in Bhutan.
With Atum’s 80th birthday on the horizon, it felt like the perfect synchronistic time to go to Bhutan and fulfill his wish of scattering some of his ashes. The plan is for my brother Kyrian to meet me in Nepal with Atum’s ashes. Being in Nepal will also give us a chance to take Atum’s ashes to Shechen Monastery and to the room where Atum met H.H Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. After being in Nepal, we will fly to Bhutan for 5 days and visit many of Atum’s favorite places. On March 30th, Atum’s 80th birthday, we will scatter his ashes. Kyrian is a professional photographer and videographer. We plan to document our trip with video clips, photos, and recorded audio. Upon our return, I will share some form of our experiences with the Spiritual Guidance Community
I am currently trying to raise money to make this happen. I’ve set a budget of $6000, which will cover the costs of flights, visas, transportation, and accommodation.
