Daddy,

Today would have been your 73rd birthday here on earth. However, instead you are celebrating in Heaven with our Lord, dining at his table, and we left behind who remember you are spending this day in a mixture of feelings of celebratory remembrance, contemplation, grief, and love.

Some of us may be commemorating this day with special or unusual efforts--like baking a cake, telling stories, planting a tree, or isolating ourselves for time of quiet thought. More importantly than this special, one-day effort, we remember you in little ways, every day of the year. Whether that's a few extra thumps of a heart while looking at a photo of you, recalling a memory, acting out a lesson you offered, reading a scripture, or simply living out the best we know how this life you've impacted, we send our prayers "out and up" and our love to you, daily, in those ways and so many more.

Our life here on earth continues on, as it should and as God intended it to be. Your time here was well spent, so we honor you, "good and faithful servant".

To those loved ones remaining and remembering with me, I lift a beer in Tom's honor and say "Cheers to Daddy," with a hearty drink.

XOXOXOXO

From our first visit at the Sergeant York Tank factory in California, Uncle Tom wowed me with his vast knowledge and technical and practical genius! From real estate law to politics, there was no matching his IQ!!!😎 It was in just last few years that I was introduced to the compassionate side of my world traveled, veteran, and engineer of an uncle!

I was going through a very difficult episode of depressive symptoms to the point I had taken leave from duties at the church. One particularly difficult day when he happened to be staying at my parents house I was extremely overwhelmed and he sensing that, stood in the kitchen and grabbed me in the biggest bear hug and began to pray with a fervency and repeat the words, “Father, comfort your son!! Father comfort your son!!”

Be comforted my dear cousins and Aunt…may God’s Grace come to each of you in the coming journey from grief to grace.
2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (KJV) 3 Blessed [be] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
