Our Love and Sympathy to Claudia and the Burns family. We grew up with Tommy and the Burns family on Brookside Ave. in Omaha. So many happy memories and good times. Tommy had an incredible life and a huge heart for family and friends.

I first met Tom Burns in the 80's when he ran labor as a partner with Jack, Ken and Jody in Newport Beach. Little did I know that in 1997-98, I would invite this wonderful human being to join Don Northrup and I in running our flooring division at BKM. Not only did I need someone that I could trust with one of our most profitable divisions but I needed him to work with about 250 others to make it work. He did that because he loved what he did and the people he worked with knew it and he grew on them and the business grew and I was so proud of him...
But after all of that, Tom Burns was my friend. We talked about everything that you could think of in those lunches and dinners of life. He exists now in my memory along with that great smile! Rest In Peace, Tommy!

My name is don Northrup and I was the President/CEO of BKM where I met Tom when hired by Steve O'Rourke for our commercial flooring division. Tom was one of our top producers during his time at BKM and also a great friend. Over the years we remained friends and often talked business since i still have my contract office/flooring dealership in Irvine. We also enjoyed each others company especially having sushi at our favorite locations. Tom will be missed and may God bless his soul and reward him for being such a great man, husband, father, and personal friend.

The Burns and Fasth families shared a wonderful childhood on Gibbons Ave in the early to mid-sixties. Young families growing up together. We would ride our bikes all over town – play baseball in the street and two hand touch football in the backyard with the McLaughlin’s. Build snow forts and igloos in the winter and making up our own fun in each other’s basements throughout the year. Spying on our parents outdoor parties from the bushes and wondering how drinking booze and smoking cigarettes can be so much fun. These are just a few of the experiences our families shared – building a bond which endures today. When I think of Tommy, I reflect on these wonderful memories and understand how lucky we were to have each other in our lives.
The other thing is “his will to live”. What a fighter! This kid NEVER gave up. Think your having a bad day? Think again. The courage and grace he displayed throughout his challenges are still an inspiration to me and have helped me understand how one’s attitude is the key to living a meaningful life. I would have liked to have played more golf with Tommy. Perhaps we can tee it up again on the back nine.

To Claudia & the Burns family…We were very sad to hear about Tom’s passing after his long battle. As next door neighbors in Arlington Heights, the Burns and the Fasth’s were more like one big family. Wonderful memories of Tom as a friend growing up, numerous visits to them in Omaha, and special times together at Bethany Beach Delaware. We last saw Tom at our wedding in 2019. We were so happy he could attend, along with Rob & John. He was a great guy and will be missed. Rest in peace to our “brother”. David & Barb Fasth Lake Geneva, WI.

My heart goes out to Claudia, Ryan, Mikayla and all those who loved Tom, not least of which is Johnny, Robbie, Susie, and David. Our families grew up together back in the Chicagoland of the 1960’s, given that we were next door neighbors and fellow Catholic church attendees. But even after Tom’s family moved to Omaha in 1966, our families remained close, frequently vacationing together and celebrating Easter. After my Mom died in 2011, Tom and I reconnected and he always texted me on my birthday, except for this year as his cancer battle intensified. Tom was a brother to me, and I’ll miss him for the rest of my life. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Tom was such a big part of my childhood. He’d pick us up from the movies or soccer practice and he was blasting “Big Poppa” in the car. When I came over to the house to hang out with Mikayla, he always greeted me with “Sprit!”and a strong hug or high five. He will be deeply missed!
