Thomas's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas James McClellan on December 26, 2024. Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose life was filled with love and faith. Born on November 21, 1951, to the late Barbara Robinson and Leonard McClellan, Tom’s kindness and devotion to his family will forever be cherished.
Tom married the love of his life, Linda, on July 31, 1976, and together they created a home filled with love and laughter. Shortly after, Tom and his family started attending Croswell Wesleyan Church, where Tom developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and became a devoted member of the church. Their faith deepened, and the church became a central part of their lives.
Tom is survived by his cherished wife of 48 years, Linda; his loving children, Heather (Scott) Thornton and Jeremy (Shantal) McClellan, both of Croswell; and his long-distance “daughter,” Saeko (Kenji) Tanaka of Osaka, Japan. He is also survived by his treasured grandchildren, Benjamin, Zachariah, Adalynn, and Clara, who called him “Papa” and brought endless joy to his life.
Tom proudly volunteered with the Lexington Fire Department for over 30 years, retiring after a long career of dedicated service. His commitment to his community and his willingness to help others in times of need left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Tom also enjoyed many years of camping in travel trailers with friends and family, creating lasting memories on countless trips. He had a special gift for connecting with others. He almost always knew someone wherever he went, no matter the distance or the trip the family would take. With his warm smile and quick wit, he was affectionately called the “social butterfly.”
Tom was like a human atlas. After years of driving semi-trucks across the country, you could call him, tell him where you were, and he could give you the directions right down to the exit number—all by memory—on almost any road from Michigan to Florida.
Tom’s love for his family was unwavering. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, always cherishing the moments they shared together. His love and guidance were felt by all, and his unwavering support was a constant in their lives.
Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick McClellan. He is also survived by his brother, Leonard McClellan; sisters, Michelle Thomas and Lila Finch; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Croswell Wesleyan Church. On Friday, January 3, 2025, visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Phil Count.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Tom’s memory to Croswell Wesleyan Church.
Though Tom will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We take comfort in knowing he is now at peace, reunited with loved ones, and in the presence of his Savior and Heavenly Father.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
