Thomas Joseph Snyder, 91, of Merritt Island, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 27, at Holmes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, Florida. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 6, 1932, to the late Cornelius Snyder and Pauline Snyder.
Tom dedicated his career to the field of engineering, retiring as an Electrical Engineer Director for United Space Alliance. Throughout his professional journey, he contributed his expertise to companies such as Lockheed and Chrysler, notably in the Missile and Space Division. Prior to his illustrious career, Tom proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954.
Tom leaves behind a cherished legacy of love and tight knit family. He is survived by his seven children: Paul (Lona) Snyder, Lisa Russell (d. Beverly), Susan (Jeff) Hosko, Denise (Brian) Jones, David (Susie) Snyder, Steven (Jeri) Snyder, and Meridith (Jeffrey) Kaplan. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, the true blessings of his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marlene DeVleiger Snyder, his son Gregory Snyder, as well as his parents and two brothers, Dick Snyder and Larry Snyder.
Tom Snyder enjoyed traveling the world for work and pleasure, and lived in Australia and Iran, in addition to the 30+ other locations throughout his life! He recently moved back to Merritt Island, Florida from Spartanburg SC where he lived with his wife after retiring from the space coast.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Thomas Joseph Snyder is planned for March 30, 2024, in Melbourne, Florida.
Tom will be remembered for his deep adoration of his family, his commitment to his profession, and his unwavering patriotism. He touched the lives of many across the globe, was a mentor to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
