Mr. Thomas Curtis Holder, Jr. age 82, of Rome, GA, died Monday, November 15, 2010, in a local hospital.
Mr. Holder was born in Floyd County, GA, on January 6, 1928, the son of the late Thomas Curtis Holder, Sr. and Bessie Garrett Holder. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II and was self-employed as a building contractor for forty-five years. Mr. Holder was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and J.O.Y. Club member. He graduated from Coosa High School in 1944 and Northwest GA Business College in 1947. In addition to his parents, Mr. Holder was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Holder, and two grandsons, Shannon Perry and Michael Akin.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lee St. Clair Holder of Rome, GA, to whom he was married on July 21, 1944; children and their spouses, Nancy and Eddie Roberson, Sherry and Bruce Perry, and Thomas and Lawrie Holder III all of Rome, GA; sister, Opal Owens of Rome; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayman and Jerry Holder of Rome, GA; a special sister-in-law, Bobbie Cannon; special brother-in-law, Max St. Clair; grandchildren, Melissa (Chris) Moon of Bowden, GA, Michael Roberson of Adairsville, GA, Denise Perry of Rome, GA, Heath (Tara) Perry of Altoona, AL, Shanna (Austin) Gattenby of Rome, GA, T.C. (Lauren) Holder of Anniston, AL, Rex Holder of Centre, AL, Major Holder of Rome, GA, Cora Lee Holder of Rome, GA, Lindsey Lawson of Rome, GA and Bubba Boyd of Cave Spring, GA; and great-grandchildren, Rusty and Seth Akin of Bowden, GA, Julia and Cothran Roberson of Adairsville, GA, Will, Allison, Cole, and Audra Perry all of Altoona, AL, Amiah Gattenby of Rome, GA, and Madison Holder of Anniston, AL.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at 6:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Dudley and Dr. Robert Ozment officiating. Interment and graveside service will be held Thursday at 10:00 A.M. in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens and please meet at the cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. until the funeral hour in the Oaknoll Chapel.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the Oaknoll Chapel by 5:30 P.M. on Wednesday and cemetery by 9:40 A.M. on Thursday: Michael Roberson, Heath Perry, T.C. Holder, Rex Holder, Rusty Akin, Seth Akin, Cothran Roberson, and Will Perry. The honorary pallbearers will be the granddaughters and the deacons of Pisgah Baptist Church.
The Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Thomas Curtis Holder, Jr.
