He graduated from Manual Training High School in 1967. After graduating from Manual, he attended Northeastern State University in Tahleqhah, Oklahoma where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972. He went on to receive a Master of Business Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma in 1977. Some of the companies he worked for included McDonnell-Douglas, Williams Engineering Company, FAA Aeronautical Center, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), and Fort Worth Independent School District just to name a few. He formally retired in 2012.

Upon retirement, he was involved in numerous civic and community organizations. He was a proud and active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he was a 50 + year member. Everywhere he went, people knew he was a member of the organization as he often proudly displayed his paraphernalia.
