Thomas's obituary
Thomas P. Doering Sr, 72, (formerly from Chillicothe, IL) entered heaven on February 24, 2023. He was born on July 3, 1950, in Peoria, IL. He was the first son of Eugene and Gladys Doering, who preceded him in death. Along with his brother, Ron, and his sister, Kathy.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Darla. His daughters, Tressa (Scott Vreeland) of Washington, IL, Kayla (Paige) of Columbia, SC, and his son, TJ of Chillicothe, IL. His sister Debbie and his brothers, Bob and Mike. Tom loved his granddaughters Gracie, Teaghan, and Francie.
Thomas lived a very fulfilling life. He graduated from Chillicothe High School and joined the service right after. He served in the US Air Force from 1969 – 1973 and received the rank of Sergeant. He served in the Vietnam Era as a Crew Chief on an aircraft from 1971 – 1972. He also worked at Doering Truck Parts as a General Manager for 26 years. From there he went to Phillipi-Hagenbuch as an Operations Manager for 16 years. After he retired, he moved to Columbia, South Carolina. Tom was also able to be part of the Peoria Honor Flight – where he flew with other veterans to Washington D.C. There he was able to see the Vietnam Memorial Wall and his favorite, the Abe Lincoln monument.
He loved attending his kids’ sporting events and school plays. Tom loved reading and could always be found working on a project around the house. Tom loved summer activities such as getting the pool ready for his family and playing volleyball. He loved his wife more than anything and said it was the best years of his life.
Cremation has been accorded at JP Holly and in lieu of a Celebration of Life any floral arrangements or condolences can be sent to 500 Keswick Rd, Columbia, SC 29210.
